Sculpting Pan

Sculpting Pan

Sculpting Pan has been one of my favorite things! I first encounter Pan in a dream, dozens upon dozens full moons ago. He came into my dream to deliver a message! I knew right away it was him, even though he had modern clothes on. He wasted no time in telling me:

“You will be happy in Catavia”. He said.

And I replied:

“Where is Catavia?” To which he proudly answered:

“In Greece of course!”.

And all of a sudden, I woke up. With the encounter fresh in my mind, I went ahead to search for Catavia in my old desktop computer with a very slow dial up internet connection. And there is was! Catavia not only existed, but it was very much so in Greece! Kattavia!

I’m still to take Pan on his word and go check Kattavia out, maybe one of these days.

You see, I was sculpting many of his statues at the time and I never asked him for anything. I believe he felt obliged to me somehow and popped into my dream to deliver a gift, an information he certainly thought we humans cherish; after all, all we really want is to be happy, isn’t it?

It's been a long while since I sculpted the Old Gods.

I have always felt a deep fascination for Pan. Perhaps because like Bastet, he came to me easily.

This week I have started sculpting Pain again, in Stone Clay (air dry). I will try my best to paint him in a more classical way and not all colorful which is what I love doing.

Most people enjoy the classical look.

He is a large statue!

I also want to sculpt smaller Gods in fine porcelain, that you can hold in your hands.

I love to sculpt, but I'm not sure how much free time I will have for it this summer as we go out and set up my Oracle tent for Tarot Readings in town and there are also the Fairs.

I was supposed to be sculpting during the winter. But I got quite sick in October and just now I'm feeling more "normal".

Pan is drying from his first coat of white paint. I have plans to leave him mostly this color and maybe accentuate with a blue-green color. But I want so bad to paint his eyes. Eyes are so important! Do you remember the first movie Clash of Titans? A Goddess gives life to her huge marble statue and only the eyes looked real. Do you remember that? That image stayed with me. I might want to do the same with this one…

I think I have finished painting him. Next it will be the varnish. I might only use shinny varnishe for the eyes. We shall see.

He is done!

Just a little paint...

Here is the progress of Pan:
